A swipe file is a running list of posts that blew up in your lane, with your guess at why. One viral post tells you nothing. Fifty, tagged the same way, show you the few reasons that keep working, and those are what you build your next clips on.

What goes in it

  • Video linkThe post itself, so you can rewatch it.
  • ViewsThe view count when you found it.
  • View rangePick one, from under 100K to 10M+, so the biggest hits are easy to sort.
  • Account or labelWhose post it is and why you saved it: competitor, inspiration, same niche, your own.
  • PlatformTikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and so on. What works on one doesn't always carry.
  • Why it went viralYour guess, in one line. Be specific: "people argue about the price", not "good content".
  • Reasons 1 to 3The three reasons that best explain it, picked from the same list every time so they add up.
  • Notes and takeawaysWhat you'd steal for your next clip.

How to fill it in

  1. 1FindScroll your niche, search the campaign's sound and check the top posts of pages you compete with.
  2. 2LogPaste the link, the views and the range, then label the account and the platform.
  3. 3GuessWrite why you think it worked, then read the comments. They usually tell you.
  4. 4TagPick three reasons from the list. When nothing fits, add a new one to the Lists tab.

TipUse the same reason names every time. "Rage bait" and "ragebait" count as two different reasons.

A worked example: food clips

We ran this on restaurant and food content. After a few dozen posts, three reasons explained most of the big hits.

  • Rage baitA $200 burger, ketchup on a steak, a strange order. People comment to argue, and every comment pushes it further.
  • A unique dishSomething most people have never seen, like ramen in a bread bowl. Curiosity keeps them watching.
  • A trendy dishThe dish everyone is making this week, done faster, cheaper or better.

Once you know your three, every new clip should hit at least one of them on purpose.

Turn the patterns into clips

  • Open the Patterns tab: the reasons at the top are your formula.
  • Build your next five clips around your top reason, and change only the hook.
  • Log your own posts too, including the flops, so you can see which reasons you're missing.
  • Come back to it every week. Trends move, and so will your top reasons.
