A new account has no history, so the app knows nothing about who your clips are for. What you do in the first days fills that gap. Warming up means using the account like a real fan of your lane before you post, so your first clips start in front of the right people.
What the app is figuring out
- Is this a real person?Normal use: scrolling, watching, liking and searching at a human pace, on a normal phone.
- What is this account into? What you watch to the end, search for, like, comment on and follow.
- Where is this account?Location, language and time zone, which decide which country's feed you're tested in.
When you post for the first time, the app runs lots of small tests to work out who to send your clip to. It starts from what it already knows. An account that spent a week watching anime edits gets its first anime edit shown to anime-edit fans. That's the edge.
The warm-up plan
- 1Day 1: set upName, bio and profile picture that say your lane. Use the app for 20 to 30 minutes like a viewer.
- 2Days 2 to 4: train itSearch your lane's terms. Watch those clips to the end, like the good ones, leave real comments, and follow 10 to 20 pages like the one you're building.
- 3Days 5 to 6: stay in your laneKeep engaging with the same kind of content, and skip the rest. Off-topic scrolling blurs the signal.
- 4Day 7: first postsPost your strongest in-lane clip. Keep up the engagement, and post once a day to start.
TipBuilding an anime edits page? Follow, watch and comment on anime edits pages. When you post, the app will guess your audience is the one you've been engaging with.
What not to do
- Mass-follow and unfollow, or like hundreds of posts in a row
- Use bots or automation to warm up: it looks exactly like a bot
- Keep switching location or network
- Post off-topic clips early on, which confuses who you're for
- Delete and repost your first clips when they start slow
By platform
- TikTokThe For You page is driven by interests, so warm-up helps most here. Location and language decide your test audience's country.
- Instagram ReelsReels go to followers and to people who don't follow you yet. Accounts you've linked in Meta's Accounts Center share some history.
- YouTube ShortsYour Google account's history counts. A channel on a fresh Google account starts with less to go on.
No app publishes a warm-up rule. These are habits that give your first clips a small edge, and small edges compound.
